Default New Carver

Well I always assumed that to be a carver was a gift and not something you can teach, but here I am about to embark in this new adventure….I am an overly obsesses person so I have already bought all the tools and wood that I can possibly ever use(lol).

I really would love to venture into the caricature part of this field. Does anyone know of any classes in the city of New York that I can attend? You would think in this great and wonderful city there would be a few…..

Welcome, sorry I can't help you to much, but would suggest some of the carvings magazines which list workshops, classes, in the various states. Our own WCI magazine lists events and classes by state. You can subscribe or pick it up at the bookstore. Of course you may already have a copy. It's well worth the cost and you learn a lot and terrific HowToo's also.

Welcome aboard. With all the new tools and all that wood, time to get to it! Put tools to wood and make chips, practice, practice, practice. There is an infinate number of possibilities to carving. Read lots of book, posts and look at plenty of other folks carvings. When you find something that you like, go ahead and begin.

Get the basics down well, learn to sharpen well and most of all.....have fun!

Bob
