Default Need tips for a beginner

Hey everybody! I've never carved anything except clay and I was looking to start a new hobby this summer. The only problem is that I have no idea where to start. I was hoping someone could help me out. What kind of wood should I start out on? Or better yet, what kind of wood is the easiest to start out on?

Welcome n00b.... Search around in the beginner section for some suggestions.

Be sure to read through the message board and get an idea of the different types of carvings and the tools that will be involved. Ask questions, look at pictures, ask more questions....and when you are finished...ask more questions. The people on here are great and the talent speaks for itself! Truely a great group of talented carvers on this site!

Welcome!
Blake
