| | Moose Antler Carving Greetings from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. My name is Terry Boudreau and I have been a moose hunting guide for fifteen years and have made annual shed hunting trips in the mountains with my boys each year. I have collected a large number of antlers and to compliment my taxidermy skills I have been carving in antlers. I am looking for new ideas and/or information you may have on tools, bits, methods of dust collection systems, patterns, bleaching, staining, or any other suggestions or information you may have to offer. I would sincerely appreciate your assistance and if I can offer you any help, please do not hesitate to contact me

| | Re: Moose Antler Carving Hi Terry, welcome aboard. Nice to see another East Coaster here..... a Cape Breton'er too. Lord love us....didn't know any of them could write, let alone use a computer!!! Is that your work I admired in the gallery in Chatham....."Edgewater Gallery" on Water Street? A moose antler beautifully worked and a letter opener in a wolf's head?
Great to see you here aboard, and participating, there are a few other Maritimers active here too, I'm sure they'll say hi when they can. They aren't shy....like me!

| | Re: Moose Antler Carving Terry, Welcome to the WCI board. You mention antler carving. I recently returned from a woodcarving seminar. There was an antler carver there named Bill Matz. He has just published a book that is one of the easiest books to follow I have read. He takes you step by step through each process in carving an antler including tools he uses. He can be contacted at www.matzsculptures.com or email at info@matzsculptures.com. Bill is a very nice guy and you will enjoy discussing this topic with him. |

| | Re: Moose Antler Carving Hi Terry,
ANother good resource is the new book by Fox Chapel Publishing "Scrimshaw 2nd Edition." I just read it and there are sections on using beef bone, antler, etc. and how to prepare them for carving and scrimshaw. There is also some awsome gallery shots of carved ivory and scrimshaw!
