Default On A Mission

Hello Everyone

You all can call me Uncle Jake. I have just joined the forum and look forward to chatting with a bunch of you and also learning from you all. I am currently working on a project for my nephew. His father was taken from us tragically and I wanted to do something special for his son. My brother was an avid hunter and has nice collections of rifles. I want to create a trophy gun case for his rifles dedicated to his memory and present it to my nephew. I just wanted him to have something special connected with his father. This is where you all come in. I'm looking for engraving patterns of wildlife such as deer, elk, fish or anything associated with the great out doors concerning hunting and fishing. If you can provide me with ideas or links to patterns, It would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to hearing from you all

Old Jake, you might try checking this site for patterns...there are all sorts of game animal patterns available. Or email Susan and ask about specific patterns you are interested in.

Hello Uncle Jake,
Sounds like you have a mission ahead of you. Lora (Susan) Irish has some great patterns that include wildlife. You can carve them in relief or woodburn them or both. She had a great pattern in WCI several years ago and it included a couple of deer with trees in the background. I made it a couple of times--one for my son and one for my son-in-law. Another pattern had a deer head and beautiful oak leaves around it.

Woodcraft stores have patterns for cabinets as does some other wood construction magazines. Good luck with your project. Sounds like an heirloom project in the making.

Welcome Jake, If you don't find what you want on Lora's site she has a book out Wildlife Carving in Relief that should help with your project.
Sorry about your brother it is a real nice of you to make this type of memorial for your nephew
