 mikeg I'm a 40 year old born and raised Vermonter. I'm married and have 4 children/step children who keep me busy most of the time. Last winter I pulled out a pocket knife and started whittling on a piece of 2x4. Almost quit after the first few tries since the knife wasn't sharp by carving standards, nor was it properly beveled. Instead I got a couple of carving knives, a few gouges and some basswood and tried again. It goes much better now and I've even sharpened a pocket knife properly and have carved a few whimseys with it. I mainly carve whimseys and caricatures. The wife, kids, dog, and house keep me busy most of the time but I try to squeeze in a little carving time when I can. This forum has been an enormous help. Plus it's always great to see what everyone else is doing.  mikeg

| Re: mikeg Hey Mike, Did you get the 16" snow that our daughter got in Brattleboro last night? We've been crying the blues cause it's be in single digits at night and barely double digits in the daytime lately--but MUCH better than that kind of snow? You know we're glad to have you on this board. It's so much fun when we have such a variety of carvers from all over the country. Donna T

| Re: mikeg Donna, We've been getting 2-3" here 1-2" inches there, no big storms so far this season. I'm not complaining, it's easier to clear 2" than 16"! I could do with some warmer weather though, the last couple of weeks it feels warm when it gets above zero. Oh well, it's a good excuse to stay inside and carve! Now if work just didn't get in the way!  mikeg

| Re: mikeg Welcome aboard Mikeg, always nice to see new faces aboard, and another East Coaster. Glad you haven't been blasted too bad with snow this winter, we could always send you some? Vermont has some great skiing if I recall correctly, but you need snow for that! Don't need snow for carving....except maybe snowmen! Bob
