I'm a 40 year old born and raised Vermonter. I'm married and have 4 children/step children who keep me busy most of the time.
Last winter I pulled out a pocket knife and started whittling on a piece of 2x4. Almost quit after the first few tries since the knife wasn't sharp by carving standards, nor was it properly beveled. Instead I got a couple of carving knives, a few gouges and some basswood and tried again.
It goes much better now and I've even sharpened a pocket knife properly and have carved a few whimseys with it.
I mainly carve whimseys and caricatures. The wife, kids, dog, and house keep me busy most of the time but I try to squeeze in a little carving time when I can.
This forum has been an enormous help. Plus it's always great to see what everyone else is doing.
