Default Looking for some info!

Hi! I just joined the forum. I have a small question, how do people carve wooden spheres?

I have never carved before but I am extremely interested. What would I need to get started, besides a piece of wood, ha, I mean what would be a good starter set for some chisels or knives?

Thanks for the help!

Do you mean carving a face in a sphere, or do you mean carving a sphere from a block? If it's faces check one of the books on carving those wooden eggs. If you mean carving a sphere from a block, it's just a matter of taking off the corners and working it slowly into a sphere. I don't mean that to sound terse, but that is what is involved. Small cuts and keep turning the piece over in your hand as you carve.

Welcome aboard.

As Al mentioned, it'd be nice to have a little more info on the "sphere" question.

As for tool recommendations - try the "Search" function first and then ask some more specific questions. It'll help us help you...

Thank you for the help. My question was about turning a block into a sphere, I have done some more research and noticed people use a lathe to make the sphere.

Thank you also for the links in the future I will definitely word my questions a little better.

Cheers!
