Default Looking foward to getting started

Hello Guys and Gals, I'm new to wood carving and have found that the post here have all been very helpful. In fact I have just ordered a few tools from Pfiel and also a few books and hope to be getting them with in a few days, even tho I have no clue as to how to use them, but I will stumble my way through a long with the help of you guys. I would like to thank all of you a head of time who have put forth the time and effort to share your knowledge with those of us just getting started.
Thanks
Kevin Ellenburg

Welcome Kevin. When you get the books that you ordered, locate the sharpening chapter and begin reading up on stropping, honing, etc. Well that and tool safety too. One of the first things I carved was my finger, so get some super glue too. Again, welcome.

Welcome,
All of the posts make it sounds like brutal mercenary work. It is. Blood will cover the walls if you aren't protected. I'm one that knows from experience. Welcome to the world of carving. It's rewarding and fun.
What part of the country are you located?

Okay I think I'm getting the picture now, safety, safety, and more safety. So far everyone seems to be very helpful and I look forward to getting to know all of you better. To your question XSailer I live in the Upstate of South Carolina but have also lived in Toronto Canada and Melbourne Austraila.
