Default Looking for Clubs

I am a 'snowbird' I and my wife are new to wood carving and would like to learn. We got books but we are hands-on kind of people. Show us and we learn fast.
We winter in S Baldwin County, AL and summer in Tuscarawas County, OH. Can anyone point me to Woodcarving Clubs in those areas?
Thanks.

Hi
If I were you I would get in touch with the club in Wilmot. I was raised in Holmes county, but haven't lived there since 1959, boy that was a long time ago! Now that I've caught my breath we'll go on, anyway I do return to the area and had seen in Chip Chats the club write ups of their shows, and decided to pay them a visit on one of my trips. It's a very active club, great people, but aren't all carvers great people? They meet at the Wilderness Center, which is just off of sr251, I can't tell you when they meet, but if you call the Wilderness Center I'm sure they can help.

Info & Correction

Sorry, I should have done more research before posting.

It's off of sr250, not sr251, I should have known better then to think my brain would come up with the right road number.

They should be meeting this Saturday at 9am.

Do a search on, Wilmot Wilderness Center, and you should find more info.

I'm sure you would enjoy the group.

Bob

there is a carving supply place in Foley,Al.,on the right hand side next to the Holiday Inn as your heading south to the shores. i forget the name of the place but i have seen him advetised in WCI.

i am travelling right now but when i get back home i'll try and find the name and exact location for you. the last time i stop there he was telling me that he was planning somekind of RV park and carving teaching facility.

The Wilmot carvers aren't far from Dover, and they both have good carving shows. You should have no problem hooking up with carvers in that part of Ohio. If the WCI links don't help you find other carving clubs, try Chip Chats.

Welcome to our "other" home. This is a great place to learn lots about carving and other important (?) and sometimes silly things. All three carving publications:WCI, Carving, and Chip Chats have a listing of carving clubs. Also, Colwood (woodburners) has a great one--sometimes I have to check all of them to find something specific. http://www.woodburning.com/clubs is the address for Colwoods--and then you click on the state in which you want to locate a club. You should be able to do that with Al and OH.

Anyway, we're glad you're here. HapPy carving.
