Welcome Chuck! Lots of good folk here to help you out along the way. Based on past experience, my suggestion for the first two tools would be a proper glove and a thumb guard.

Nice to hear such positive replies so quickly yesterday--thanks! I feel lucky to have found such a wealth of information in you all. I did get to Allen Goodman's video and would like to order a knife. I just cannot seem to locate the actual place in his site where I can place the order. Has anyone ordered one? Thanks again, Chuck
