Wink I just flew in...

... & boy are my arms tired!

All jokes aside, I'm Dinkerson 26y/o from NC, & here's my story.
I just got a GPS unit as a gift, & some of you may know (I'll forgive those who don't/ask if you're interested) geocacheing is a very popular activity to take up with your GPS unit.

Anyway in a round about way that brought me here as I've been wanting to take up wood carving for years. The idea is to learn how to carve wooden figures that I can leave in trade for other items as signature pieces.
I'll be lurking around trying to figure out if this is something I can do on my budget (super cheap) starting with nothing in materials or tools.

Thanks for having me!
Dinkerson

Welcome, GPS is becoming more and more popular with folks. My hubby uses it with the Yavapai County Sheriffs Search & Rescue Unit. We also have one in both our cars, which has been very helpful while traveling.
The cheapest wood is 'found wood' so think about carving it. Also when you find some, but can't take it with you at the time. Just GPS it!
Good luck, carving is a wonderful hobby and even fine art.
Kathy

Welcome ,

Kathy is right, found wood. My wife and kids have nearly disowned me for all the times I have stopped the car to grab some chair or bark at the road side. Cotton wood bark is a pretty good place to start. A simple $15 dollar knife and a chunk of wood and you are in.

Again, welcome to the forum. Enjoy browsing through.

John K Karver.
