| | Intro and free glove Hi everyone,
Just started carving and purchased a small steel mesh glove, that is too small for me. If any of you need a small glove, I will happily mail it to you for free. I placed another order at Chippingaway this morning and the person I spoke to gave me the medium glove for free, since I am giving the small glove away. Really nice people and great products.
No I do not work for nor am I affiliated with Chippingaway.
I really enjoy carving, and have managed to do some caricatures--great fun. I have a slight problem in my hands and wrists with arthritis, I'm 72 so I guess that's probably common.
I enjoy this site very much and have learnt a lot from the members. So thanks to all of you.

I am 62 and just started carving as a retirement hobby. This really helps with the fixed income budget.
God Bless

Thanks for the upload link.
Here is my first 3 weeks of carving caricatures. They're in the order I carved them. I must thank Gene Messer for his fantastic hillbilly tutorial. The snow man is for a tutorial that I can't find again to give credit, sorry. The skinny guy is from Pete LeClair's book. The last is my attempt to carve a female. My wife said it looked like an angel so added the cross and painted it pink. Hope everyone enjoys. |

| | Re: Intro and free glove Those were nice words about Chippingaway. The Moor's are really nice people, as are most carvers, and I'm not surprised they would make you that offer to replace the glove. MIke |

| | Re: Intro and free glove Thanks so much. I will be looking forward to the glove. I had been using an old Ov-glove that was way too big and only really for hot things from the oven.
Your first carved items look great. I've heard you should always keep your early carvings to compare your progress. I enjoy that part of the Woodcarver Illustrated Magazine. It gives me hope and I just keep carving.
We spent the winter in Arizona City. Next winter will be in Casa Grande and they have woodcarving classes there. I learned a little from a fellow in our park that was doing woodcarving and it looked interesting to me. Got the Wood Spirit download lesson from Laura Irish and just started on my own.
I went to the Woodcarving show in Mesa and bought a book on relief carving and some wood, but am still on my own as there are no carving groups or classes near me. Oh, well, that is how I learned to knit. Just get a book and try it out.
Thanks again.
