hello, after being forced to stop working ive been looking for some to fill some of my time i like carving so far ive met some of the people in the local club and all of them have been very helpful i hope to find more freinds in this field. ive been an electrican for one of the state prison,s for the last 17 year but after my seventh heart attack they told me i could not go back to work this time. ive started working on a relief carving but ive got a lot of work to do beforee they look like the other guys work.

Welcome Old Man in the Woods, we hope we can help you get started in this hobby. Tell us about the relief project you have started. What wood? What tools? Can you share some photos? Go to the Relief & Chip Carving section of the Carver Galleries and look thru some of the photos. You might find some ideas or contacts for your questions, if any.

No snow at my house, but some on the mountains all around. Yes, basswoood is prefered by many carvers on this site, especially for reliefs.

Hi Old man,

Welcome. We too have plenty of snow we could share. Let the chips fly and see what comes of it. Then find more wood and try again. Look forward to seeing your work too. There are some great sites to get ideas and be encouraged here. Have fun looking.

John
