Default Howdy y'all.

I'm an occasional carver (I don't know if you'd go as far as to call me a carver). I found the site and thought I might pick up some interesting chatter. Maybe I'll find some inspiration here to keep going. My first piece I tried a dozen years ago was a Santa brought out of a piece of red cedar. I left the white wood for his hair, beard, and coat and cap fur, and cut into the red heart for the body and face. It's an interesting story why I did this one, and maybe I can share it someday.

Thanks Lance. Call me Bob. Believe me, the story reads a lot better than the carving looks, but how do I put the pic on? Just upload to the profile picture, or can we put photo's in the thread? I really like your signature there. AMEN!

Our rural electric coop has a magazine, and once it asked for readers' best true Christmas stories. They printed my wife's story about her fifth Christmas. Grandpa (my wife's actually, but he was more Grandpa to me than I'd ever had) always managed to be gone when Santa came during the family Christmas gathering. That year my wife noticed Santa was wearing Grandpa's shoes. Of course she was beside herself and wanted to know why he had Grandpa's shoes. Santa said that Rudolf got playing around and got Santa's boots all muddy. He had seen Grandpa out by the barn, and he'd loaned him those shoes. That's the very short version not told well, but after we read the article, I asked her if Santa ever brought the shoes back. She said, "You know, I don't think he ever did." So for my first project I carved (hacked is a better term) out a little Santa bust with Grandpa's shoes in the top of the pack.

OK, I put a not so good pic of the little Santa bust and a walking stick (part of a set I did of Biblical figures...this one's Blind Bartemaeus). Santa's face looks like it caught an east bound Freightliner and ended up kind of flat. I learned from that. It was a blast. Don't laugh too hard.

Thank you everybody. You keep a great site. And as to the BWBB of Co B, that's close. I originally was a trumpet man. I got started too young and burned out early. I'm a laid off plant worker right now. We used to make drills (bits).
