Default Howdy from the Golden corner of SC

Howdy folks,

I'm fairly new to carving, although I've worked with wood for 30 plus years. I'm a carpenter by trade so I do woodworking on a large scale. The little bit of carving I've done has been on found wood, usually Mountain Laurel. I have a huge pile of it of it salvaged from the jaws of the woodchipper. I also use Holly to carve on. Both are very hard woods, but they hold detail well.

I can sharpen regular chisels and plane irons well, but don't do well with carving tools yet. Doug Ridley suggested I check out this forum for opinions on the Jool Tool and the Work Sharp. So many thanks to Doug.

I hope to post a couple of pictures of the few carvings I've done.

Thanks, Mike G. in SC

Welcome! I can't help with your sharpening questions, but I'm confident someone will come with some answers. Also, look in the archives. I know there was a thread on the Jool Tool not long ago.
