Question Howdy and a question

I am fairly new to woodcarving, but have dabbled in woodworking for years - and, yeah, I've got lots of them years on this ole body.

Question. Has anybody tried to latout the "Shelf Sitting Elf" shown in Woodcarving Illustrated issue for Fall 2010. I want to do my own cut-out. But no matter how I rotate the front view, I can't get it to line up precisely with the top view.

Has anybody had this problem, or successfully made a cut-out?

Dave,
I had the same problem. I finally just cut out the front view profile and used the other drawings for reference. Of course it will take a little it longer to get to the final shape, but that just gives me more time with my chisels and knives. Good luck on your project.

Welcome to the WCI Forum Dave! Nope, haven't had a chance to try it yet...I've just received the Fall issue today, but it looks like a fun project though. I'm sure some of the other carvers will already have tried it and will shortly post a means to cut the rough out for you. Hope you enjoy the forum and don't forget to post a few photos of your new little elf when you finish it, we'd love for you to share it with us... Again, welcome aboard!
