Default Hi! New to the Woodcarving world.

Hi All

I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you about why I came to this forum.

The first time I was introduced to woodcarving was back in seventh grade art class. We started out with a medium of soft tiles and taught how to use the tools. And then we were allowed to go on to a small block of wood. It was a small window into something that I really enjoyed. But being a school program it didn't last long. I didn't know anyone else that was involved in carving so my interest faded as I went on to other things.
Forward 30 years later and here I am, kids off to college and the hubby and me alone. What to do??? Don't get me wrong we have lot of other hobbies. We love to fish. Open water and Ice fishing. We put alot of mileage on our boat and have a trophy wall to really admire. We love to go to Flea Markets and buy and sell. We mainly like to trade ducks and Loons. My husband is very much into music, so we also buy and sell guitars. He has started to work on guitars, taking them apart and cleaning a twicking them. It keeps him busy.
Anyway we were on one of our fishing trips and I met up with this young man who was carving a walking stick. It so intrigued me. So that made me think about the wood carving class I had back in the day. I thought "Hey I tried that once and loved it". So I decided I would look into getting involved in a club or class in my area. Well I haven't had any luck finding anyone around my area that does this. So this brings me here.
I'm interested in learning the craft of woodworking.
I am very interested in carving lures and especially Baby duck lures. I would also like to try to carve fish. To see and a fish up close is so cool.
So I hope to learn from you all and in the future be able to maybe give someone else some helpful hints.

Thank you for reading my introduction.

Hi Crappiekat
This is a fun loving community of very nice people and a great knowledge base of Woodcarving in all its forms. They are always glad to help. Look at the left bar under Carving Clubs and see if there is a club in your area. Look at all the pics of Fish back on previous pages, there are some folks on here that are great with Fish carvings. Also if you go to Fox Chapel there is a book on Carving Fishing lures.
Welcome to the forum also

Larry
