Default Hi From A New Guy In Fort Atkinson Wi

Hi Everybody,
I'm a new guy from fort atkinson wi.(about halfway between madison and milwaukee).

I have done a lot of woodworking from boat building to turning. Always intersted in a new challenge. Presently not very active in the shop due to rotator cuff surgery.

Other then woodworking, am very interested in fly tying but not fly fishing.

I would like to get into power carving, Frank Russell canes, birds of prey and what ever, maybe charactures(sp).

Really want to learn how to do feathers with wood burner etc. Have a simple wood burner, couple of dremels and an old foredom. I am left handed so am guessing I might need the new reversible dremel? Not many fancy bits. Would appreciate any advice about burners and burner tips and reversible foredom or other smaller units I see in the Magazines.

I also talk a lot. Will close for now

Bob V.

welcome. i just got here myself... actually as a lefty, you are fortunate, because the dust from power carving is sent away from you, and hopefully into a dust collection system, as opposed to into your face and then hopefully, a dust collection system. some wood or bone dust is toxic...

Hello and welcome, Bob V. It's nice to have you here with us. I use power to carve and have used a burner to do feathers on my Indian canes. I'm not sure if your burner has a sufficiently thin tip to do fine feathers, but you just need to try it.
