Marilik, it's kinda hard to distinguish what your carving is, from that photo, although I've sort of placed it in the walking stick category, if there is more to the piece to the lower left. I've used a similar "burning technique" on a walking stick I did in 1980, and I'm still using it today. That fire treatment hardens the wood up and provides an extremely tough walking stick. I don't know if they still do it, but tool makers used to fire harden hickory handles for hammers, axes, shovels and hoes. They held up really well.

Oh, and welcome aboard! Join in the carving and conversation....it's a good place to visit. Pull up a chair and set a spell.

Welcome! Age 15! Wow, I wish I had started to learn to carve at age 15. I waited 50 years longer. Ask lots of questions here, you'll get lots of answers. Check out the galleries and you'll get lots of inspiration. Tom H
