Default Hi all

Just found this site and am excited to become a member. I've only been carving for a few years, but it has become a big part of my life. A friend showed me how to carve my first "Wood Spirit" about 3 years ago and now I have approx 100 carvings. Most are carved in Walnut and Locust. As soon as I learn how to post pics, I will. Any help with learning how to post pics will be greatly appreciated. Again, Hi to all and I'm looking forward to being a part of this wonderful community of carvers. I'm from La Porte, Indiana. Thanks, Dan

Welcome Dan. Looking forward to seeing your work. Definitely check the FAQ. I also believe there is a pictorial guide in one of the forums...Admin maybe?

edited to add: Doh! the FAQ is the Admin forum.

Thanks to you both, but I'm almost computer illiterate. We didn't have PC's when I was growing up and its trial and error for me, mostly error. I have pics on my PC, but don't know how to get them from there to here. I will get someone over to help. Thanks again, Dan

Attaching a thumbnail or photo to a thread

Here is the link to the post I was referring to. Should just be able to click it and go read the post.

It is a fairly easy thing to do once you get the right sequence of buttons to push but the Upshot is..

1) Make sure the pictures are smaller than 580high x 700wide pixels. You can download a shareware program called irfanview http://www.irfanview.com that will let you edit the size of pictures on your PC in different formats. JPEG is the most commonly used.

2) When you create a new post, at the bottom of the creation page you'll find a section called Attach Files. Click the manage attachments button and it will open a new window. The top section is upload from your computer. You can attach up to 5 photos at a time by clicking the browse button and choosing the pictures from your PC. The bottom of that window also lists the maximum sizes allowed as a reminder.

3) Once you've chosen which pictures to post click the upload button. This will take a few minutes depending on your connection speed but the pictures will be copied to the forum and attached as thumbnails to your post.

4) If any of the pictures are to big it will give you an error message. Example: Canada Goose (Crias).jpg:
The Dimension limits for this filetype are 780 x 580. We were unable to resize your file so you will need to do so manually and upload it again. Your file is currently 1245 x 1050.
No big deal. Just close the attachment window(not the browser) edit the pic size and reattach using the step above.

Hope that helps.
