| Thanks for the welcome guys. Being married to a Cuban girl, I have obviously been in Cuba many times. And I would say that it’s a wood carver’s paradise. During my many trips I have seen thousands of all kind of different wood carvings, but the fast majority has obviously been the usual tourist stuff. I have always been looking for that one carving that really spoke to me, a piece of art, made by a real wood carving specialist that has used his skills in creating a piece of art by following the structures of the wood, instead of just cutting the wood into looking like the rest of them. Well, I believe that I found it a week ago. This figure has obviously been created out of the root of a tree, and the artist has used his fantasy and nicely used the structure of the wood in crating this wonderful piece. It shows the face of a women covered by leaves from the tree, from there forward it’s all imagination. I unfortunately don’t know which kind of tree it comes from, but the colors are awesome and it’s very heavy, it is 29 cm high, the length is 40 cm and it weights 4 kg. If somebody can tell which tree it comes from I will appreciate it, if additional pictures is needed I will be happy to post them. I have shot the pictures outside in my garden in order to show the tree in its right environment, and to give you guys a glance of the Danish autumn. Hope you enjoy it. Best regards from Denmark, Kurt |

Beautiful carving. If I had to guess the wood...Walnut? Don't take my word for it though, I am hopeless when it comes to wood identification. You were right to bypass the tourist stuff and wait for the right one done by a true artist. Good find. Joe.
