I just recently started doing some chip carving, and caricature carvings. I need some help with carving the eyes. Anybody have some good illustrations showing the basic steps. I tried carving an eye on a pine board blank. Can't remember the basic steps. Thanks Al

Practice, Practice, Practice

I have been work for the past month doing nothing but eyes and noses and I still need to work on it.

Get your self pictures of eyes, watch videos about carving eyes, there are some books out there. The more you research and practice the better and easier the eyes will get.

Without seeing what you are doing I will make SWAG at it. Did you use thumb tacks or pins with an iris and pupil painted on it to show direction or expression? I do that sometimes it helps me. I like to start carving the eyes just a little larger than they need to be this allows me to work them down.
I have made myself many eye tools over the years of different sizes most are the punch type made from steel pipe I hammered the pipe to the shape I want. I have some that I put in a drill and burn the eye ball this is good for small carvings and ones that you intend to paint. I do know that now you can buy already made eye tools.
