Default Hello ya all!

I have been reading your chats for long enough. I think it is time for me to join the crowd, ask some questions and learn to make more chips.

First of all, I must thank Irish for answering my many questions and helping me get started. Then, Rick answered more questions and his lovely wife, Theresa, helped me get equipped to start the life of chipping away. And not to forget, Joe in Maryland even gave me some of his tools to begin with. Thanks to you all. I have since carved my first little spoon -- all by hand with knife, chisel and gouge only, and an exercise piece of balls in cage. This is nothing like what I have done before and I love it.

I have used quite a few advice I read from you. It's so good to know there are others who have been where I am and are out there to share their experiences. Thanks in advance for dealing with my questions.

I agree, Kathy. I was amazed by how willing everybody has been to offer help and advice. Among my friends here in Maryland, nobody carves. They actually were surprised that a woman likes to play with a knife and a piece of wood. It's so comforting to know that there are so many good, passionate female carvers out there. It get so excited the moment I think sitting down to carve some more. I already know what everybody in the family is going to get for Christmas this year -- chip carved coasters, spoons, figurines, etc.

I must say that I am proud to join the league of women with knives! I did not know for more than 30 years I liked using my hands until I bought a house and started remodeling. I took a woodworking class and got hooked. And then I apprecticed as an art framer. That was the real beginning of "I want to do detailed work!" It just opened my eyes for seeing things I never appreciated before. My mom thought I have gone insane and "turned into a man" because I am doing things that even my dad and my rothers can't do! So, please, all of you, help me as I grow and learn. I thank you all.
