| | Hello WCI members Hello WCI members, My name is Ron and I am primarily a stick carver. I became interested in canes, since I use one, and began to make canes and walking sticks about six years ago. This led me to try my hand at carving and though I am disabled, it has not kept me from trying. I love the feel of wood and especially the feel of the knife blade working it. So, although it’s easier for me to use power, both rotary and reciprocating, I prefer to use my knives when I can. In addition to carving, and since I am disabled, I make my own carving knives to meet my special needs. There was mention in the posts of a blind carver and others with special needs and I am very interested in hearing from you. As my hands are getting weaker, I recently looked into wood burning and have begun to embellish some of my sticks with pyrographic designs and acrylic paints. Most of my sticks were found when I was travelling in an RV. And though it is more demanding, I carve hardwoods like walnut, fruitwood, boxwood, etc. which I get from friends. I found this group by searching for avocado pit carving which led me sticks in the topics posts which got me to join. From the many posts I’ve read and the carvings I’ve viewed in the gallery, you all seem to very supportive, warm, welcoming and talented people and I’m looking forward to getting to know you. |

| | Re: Hello WCI members Hello Al,
I gather from your post you are a snowbird. I had a friend who was one also and I used to go to Yuma twice a year to visit. He is the one who got me interested in Diamond willow sticks. Bill and his wife Helen are from Parksville, B.C. I believe he was also going to the Adult Center to carve.
Thank you very much for visiting my site and for your generous comments. |

Thank you for your welcome. I had trouble uploading some photos but figured it out and posted them in a continuation of this thread. I had a chance to visit your website. It is designed very nicely, is striking and very colorful with your work showing right there. You are indeed fortunate to be a full time artist and very well rounded from what I saw of the paintings and carvings shown in your gallery. |

Thank you, for taking the time to visit my website and view my work. As I'm retired, my hubby too, it's great to be able to do things we couldn't do before. We are transplanted Northern Californians, been in AZ. for 5 years.
Well, hope you enjoy WCI as much as I do.
