Default Hello from SW Virginia

I have been a memeber of this forum for a few months now but have not gotten around to introducing myself.

I am Bobby, 29m. I have a wife and wonderful but VERY energetic 2yrs. old son. I have been "carving" since last June but have really only done a couple of projects and a lot of dreaming. I guess I am a wood carver/worker daydreamer. I would love to work with wood for a living. I enjoy celtic style wood carving/working and toy making.

I only have a few knives but that is increasing slowly. My biggest problem is correct sharpening, so if anyone knows of any good and free tutorials on the web I would love to hear about them!

I enjoy seeing the work that everyone does here and I hope to be able to contribute myself. Keep up the AMAZING work!

Thanks

Bobby

Welcome aboard Bobby. Great to see fresh new faces within our ranks. Rick Ferry has a great site for new carvers at www.littleshavers.com have a peek. Again, welcome to the group and we'll be looking forward to seeing your work.

Hey, we're all daydreamers when it comes to carving, and methinks the vast majority here also would like to be able to earn their living doing this.

Welcome! Don't be a stranger, okay?

Hi Bobby, I'm in NE TN, so I guess we're neighbors. Ask questions, read, and most important, have fun! If I can be of help let me know. Do you know there's a show in Johnson City this coming Saturday? There should be a group of us from the board roaming about. Think about running over. There's another carver on here that hasn't been carving too long, but has been doing very good. He use to be in SW VA, but jumped the fence to NE TN. He'll be on here soon, I would expect! Bob

Welcome to the forum!

Not sure just where you're from in SW Virginia, but the little trail town of Damascus is one my most favorite places on the planet. Great little town, fine people, and a very inviting atmosphere. I've got some great memories from that part of the country.

Hello Neighbor! As Bob has already told you, I too am originally from SW Virginia (Abingdon) and moved to Bristol in July. This is a great board to be a part of! Welcome abord! I too have a very active 2 year old so I can understand how difficult it is to find time to carve. Needless to say, the friends you make on here and the talent you get to see is enough to keep you motivated. Feel free to ask questions and review the threads. You will learn a lot! Hey, try to come to the woodcarving show in Johnson City next weekend if you are free and have a chance to take it in. Some of us from the board will be down there!

Blake

Welcome,
WHen you've got a toddler and/or young kiddos at home, it's tough to find time to get out sharp tools--or to find time to do anything other than work and sleep.

We're glad to welcome you here and we look forward t seeing more of you. Let us know what you're carving and what kinds of carvings you want to do...or learn to do.

Greetings Bobby... I'm a halfback in S.E. Tenn. Do pay Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers a visit http://www.woodcarvers.com/ They're great folks and have a lot of good information on their website. A visit to their store at Nawger Nob is also well worth the time.

You might also want to visit http://www.chrispye-woodcarving.com/ He offers a monthly free e-newsletter packed with information plus free downloadable tutorials. His site is a wealth of information.
