Default Hello from San Francisco

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner wood carver living in San Francisco, CA. I stumbled across this site and was just blown away. I can't wait to explore it more.

Anyway, I've always had a fascination with wood carving but just started doing it. I'm taking a woodworking class at the city college here and our first assignment was to make a piece of treen. I really like making my own sushi, so I decided to make sort of a japanese inspired cherry blossom rice paddle. I had lots of ups and down making it, but here's what I finally came up with. It's carved from a piece of soft maple with some little painted inlays for the cherry blossoms.

I have an image up here.

Anyway, can't wait to get to know this place and explore wood carving with everyone.

Nice job on the paddle .

Most won't know your term. Treen is an old name for carved spoons .

Welcome

Ash

Hello and welcome, I'm a transplated Bay Area person now living in Arizona. Many, many visits to San Francisco, beautiful city.
Your rice paddle turned out really well, especially for a first effort. I think you are well on your way to the wonderful world of woodcarving.
Folks here are really friendly and always welling to help a fellow carver with their questions and carvings.
