Default Hello from the Poconos

Hi everyone, I've been lurking around for a while and thought I should say thanks for the great site. As a new carver, there sure are plenty of great carvers/resources here. Many thanks to all of you.
I've carved some whimsies and a caricature in the past few weeks and had a lot of fun.My interest lies in progressing on to birds and animals in the future. I've ordered few Stiller patterns and the results will be interesting I'm sure. I will probably be leaning towards purchasing some power tools soon as my research seems to indicate most(not all) wildlife carvers achieve such fine feathers and fur with power. Is my assumption off base? Thanks again to all who contribute here.

Steve

Hi Steve! Welcome to the WCI Forum! Sounds like you're 'addicted' to wood carving like the rest of us...Ha! I've carved a few animals and birds so far, but haven't progressed to the stage of using power tools to add details like feathers, fur, etc... but I'm sure there are lots of carvers here who have and can give you some excellent advice on what course of action to take and types of equipment to purchase...Great bunch of carvers here as you've probably already noticed, so just hang around a few and they'll be with you to offer some good advice... In the meantime safe carving to you and welcome to your new hobby!

G'day Steve, welcome to the forum. I use power on everything to cut down on the time involved. Probably makes me a bad carver, but hey, my time is precious. Joe.
