Default Hello, from a newbie

Hello all. I just joined the other day, I haven't been able to before 'cause my wife is always chatting with am. idle people about Elliott (whoopee).
Now that I have my own comp. I can play too!
I've been carving about two years now, pic.'s will follow when I ever learn how!, I started mainly to help work the arthristis out of my fingers. Most of my stuff I give away to people who want a cool little figure but can't afford one. A lot 0f carictictures (?) have been given to local nursing home residents, and children. I've done a nice wall hanging for the Home, and a raally cool in the round figure that was auctioned off for jr.diab.foundation.
I have time now to mess around on the comp. since I did a serious hurt to my hand five weeks ago, I can just now type(somewhat!) but I still can not do much more. And yes,I was wearing protection. I managed to run a 7/16 #2 into my palm and up under the meat of my thumb by 1 1/2" and into, and nearly severed the nerve to my thumb. With Force.
Of all my many cuts that I usually fix with duct tape instead of stitches, this one I knew instantly that a trip to the E.R. was in order. My thumb went numb, and hurt like heck up into my elbow. 5 WEEKS AGO! Don't try this at home, kids!
When I learn how to do post's and pictures and stuff I'll slap a few of my things on here.
For now, Russ Poyer

Welcome Russ. For 3 years I have been telling my wife that the computer cannot replace the hand written letters that she writes. So far so good. She wants nothing to do with it....Heal up fast, so you can get back to the carving. Share some photos when you can...Tom H

Greetings Russ!

Oh! How familiar your battle wound sounds. Darn near cut off my left thumb and first finger three years ago myself. The numbness is just now going away. If you don't carve with a safety glove check out the thread on carving with a glove under tools and sharpening ( Carving Gloves & Finger Protection ).

As for giving away your work I'm with you. I'd much rather give my work to some one that will appreciate it, see the smile on a child's face, or know that when donated to a charity that the proceeds will really beneift those less fortunate. Those things are priceless...You sound like good people!

God's Speed!

Gee, that almost sounds almost as much fun as shaving the side of your hand with an electric plane. However, I don't think I want to try it!

Heal quickly, new friend.
