Welcome to the fourm. I like your work. The Orca looked a bit out of place but nicly done.
The cedar table is simply lovely. Nice finish, Was it machine finished? The polish is excellent.
Anyway Welcome

The finish on the table is tung oil, about 14 coats wet sanded to 400 between coat 7 and 14. the finished with furniture wax.
I use a 2 inch router bit to flatten the cedar.
Yes I agree, it is a fish out of water.

| | Re: hello from Guemes Island Welcome to the forum! Don't you just love red cedar? Even the junky stuff has a nice grain.
I liked that blackfish (killer whale). An unusual attitude - diving, obviously - when most carvers/artists portray it jumping.
The tail looks slightly unusual, but still, a very nice carving. My wife would love to have it in our driveway.
Is that hemlock? |

Yes I do Love Red cedar, And it helps that it is littering the beach on our small island. currently I'm making a 10 foot canoe out of one log...I plan to put a small kicker on it and go crabbing soon.
as for the whale..the challenge was to put it in a natural pose, thats how I came up with the nose down, the stump was a leaner.
thanks again,
what a friendly group of artists i've found,
