I started carving when I was about 10 or 12 years old. Back then my uncle had a small grocery store so I had good access to the old wooden fruit crates. I must have carved a hundred or so pirate type swords out of the slats. At that time crates made of really clear white pine slats made excellent wood to carve. I started back to carving about 1980 in earnest and have been carving almost daily since.
