| | Hello Everyone! Hi my name is Joe I'm from the philadelphia area and I've only been carving for about six months. I can't wait to start to get to know everyone. I do have one question off the bat. I will be traveling to Las Vegas in July for work and am curious if anyone has ever checked in their tools with an airline or how to go about it. I would love to bring some stuff with me because I will have some downtime and rather than gamble I would love to do some carving. Any suggestions? |

| | Re: Hello Everyone! hello and welcome to the board, what about mailing them priority a day or so before you leave then mailing them back to yourself i know it may cost you but it maybe worth it not having to deal with the airline security.

| | Re: Hello Everyone! Thaks so much Bart! Thanks for the welcome. I thought about maybe mailing it out, I'm just so worried something would happen to them or they don"t get there. Maybe I should just not do it at all but it would be a great time to carve as I don't get much free time ber=tween work and home. |

| | Re: Hello Everyone! I'd go with Fed-X too. I did the same thing with large format negative I shot years ago on a trip, not wanting to trust the "photo safe" xray machine at the airport. It was a relief not to have to worry about it.
Welcome to the site. I'm new here too, and a new carver

| | Re: Hello Everyone! I take my carving tools with me on plane trips. I pack them in my suitcase that I check and have never had a problem. I put an issue of WCI in my suitcase with the tools so the inspectors know what they are. I've never had a question and never lost a tool. Saying that is probably a jinx, huh? Don't even try to carry them on or gate-check them. They're not allowed in the passenger area. Good luck and enjoy. Mike |

| | Re: Hello Everyone! Hi Joe, and welcome. Hey thanks for your question about air travel and carving tools. I've wondered about the same things--I know we have carving teachers who don't all drive to events with their carving tools. They must have a method for packing their supplies and tools.
So, some of the answers you have been given sound good.
Hope you enjoy WCI message boards, there all chocked full of excellent carvings and woodburnings. You can't beat these wonderful folks when you need help and encouragment.

| | Re: Hello Everyone! Thanks so much everyone for the suggestions and welcomes. Hi Ho, I've heard all about the dry heat, here in Philly we get muggy humid heat and I think I would prefer the dry heat instead. Sitting in an airconditioned hotel room carving with no distractions sounds real good to me. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
