| | Hello Everyone! hello everyone ! My name is Lilly, I am new here, as I would like to start carving....or attempt to carve ! I loved looking at the pics of finished projects by various members. I mainly want to carve door greeter statues or garden art, to weather and blend in with the surroundings in the herb garden. I always have been artsie, and for years I created in clay, wall decor items. I would make moulds of the clay characters...and they would produce a plastisized version....paint & sell in catalogs etc. Years ago...some of my works were displayed at the famous Chicago furniture mart ...which was very exciting. Since my health is not so good and i was permenantly injured in my dominant shoulder...i don't know how well this is going to proceed..because I'm left handed...and now I must use my right! Yikes. anyhow...Just a friendly hello to all, and I'll probably be full of questions, or wear your search bar for the forum, completely out! B-Bye for now ...talk soon. Lilly |

| | Re: Hello Everyone! Welcome to our group. We have a lot of "senior" members, so we have lots of folks with maladies and problems. Most are very helpful and will be glad to share their secrets to carving with less than perfect physiology. Wait until you talk to Ron Davidson, our blind carver! It can be done, and with your artistic skill and background, you'll find a way to carve wood. Mike |

Just saying hello and welcome!
Also to encourage you and to tell you to just take it slow and easy until you get the hang of carving with your right hand. Usually everyone finds a way to overcome an adverse situation--arthritis, blindness, old inuries, new injuries, etc. It's just a matter of mind over physical ability--and of course, a lot of patience, adapting, and I wouldn't be honest if I didn't mention cursing under our breath, and the usual standby, walking away and taking a lot of short breaks! LOL
And of course, we'll help you along when you need it! Feel free to ask questions and jump in and post along with the rest of us.

From one new comer to another
Learning is something that we all do in stages, and if you are dyslexic like I am, then the simplist thing becomes a chore. Luckily my wife can take a picture scan it on the computer and reverse it for me to see how the other side should look. The Arctic turn was accomplished that way, especially the wings.
Today in the seniors group that I belong to, the gentleman that is helping with the group project was unavailable. So It only took me 3 1/2 hours to figure out how the heals of the nude that we are carving should fit under the seat (for use of a better word lol). I am getting close but don't feel that they are shaped quite right yet.
Another day and another 3 1/3 hours to go on this part of the anatomy.
