Talking Hello Everyone

My name is Ken Rollinson and I am a Metis carver from Ontario, Canada. My work deals with the Acadian and Mi'kmaq cultures that are part of my ancestry. I have posted photo's of one of my latest pieces in the Carver Galleries and hope you will post your thoughts there. If you want to visit me on my website where I have more of my work, my address is:

I am very happy to share my work and view yours as well. Keep up the great work!

Welcome Ken,

I always enjoy carvings/art from other cultures so I hope you can participate in the discussions as there is quite a mix of carvers here. I especially like your randition of a crow from your site.

Welcome aboard. You will fit right in around here. I mean in our carving group here at home.

This evening we had a young lad of 14 learning the joys of pyrography, a Mi'kmaq lady working on an Eagle, a Mi'kmaq gentleman carving a bears head, an older retired airman whittling a ball in cage, a well respected fiddler of Scottish decent carving a duck, an Acadian carver doing a nautical scene, a retired bamker working on a horses head on an arrowhead, and a newly released soldier from the RCR who began carving tonight for his first time, on an Eagles head. I was flitting around offering encouragement and pointers, and doing some planking on a ship half model hull. We Have Fun!!! Nobody wants to go home, start clean up at 8:50 but it was 9:40 befotr the last of them were gone.

Anyone is welcome to join us. Monday nights at 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at my house. Bring your own tools and something to carve.

Bob

Welcome to the board. I don't know overly much about your cultural history, but I look foward to learning about it and its influence on your carvings. The web link is very nice. Thank you for sharing

Thank to Everyone for the warm welcome and all your nice comments about my work and site. I wish I could go to your carving group Bob. I would love to go to Nova Scotia some day. I live in Ontario, but hope to go to see where my ancestor's lived some day. When that happens I would love to drop into your carving group and see what people are doing. I am impressed by all the wonderful work I'm seeing on this site and am so glad I found this forum.

Thank you,

Ken Rollinson

Thanks to Everyone;

I guess I'm still getting used to this posting stuff. I posted before and then accidentally erased it somehow...I think. LOL. Anyhow, I was saying thank you to everyone for the positive comments about my work and my site. Also, I wish that I could go to Bob's carving class as I would love to meet all the people and see what they are working on. Maybe someday I will visit Nova Scotia and be able to see where my ancestor's once lived.

Thanks for the support guys. I hope I can contribute to your forum. It looks as if you guys have covered many subjects already, which I will be busy reading. If anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask and I will do the same.

Ken: Your carvings are very bold and really catch my eye and I love how you explained about how your drawings are based on your dreams. Artists' like yourself really cause me to pause and think about looking for a deeper meaning to what I create. Looking back to your own ancestors and the native peoples of your region is a great place to start. Thanks for sharing your website!
