Default Hello Everybody

I'm a new member originally from New York but now living in the mountains in North Arizona. I'm an aspiring naturalist in college focusing on field ecology, and I've just turned 26. My family put some money on an amazon account for me, and I've just decided that I'm going to spend it on the tools necessary for whittling. I do a lot of hiking/backpacking around here, and this would be a great hobby for me!
I'm not quite sure what sort of knives I need to get or anything, but I've been reading through some threads and there are tons of information and advice for beginners, so no need to put the effort in for this thread, just wanted to introduce myself. Cheers!

hi!
have you looked at flexcut knives? they have a pocket knife specifically for carving. seems like it would be perfect for someone with limited space and backpacking.

Hello Trystyn,
Welcome! Quite the move there, but thinking its way smarter than mine as I went further Northeast! You will find alot of information here, great group of folks to ask questions of - just take your time.
As far as a knife, you may want to use the Amazon for books you need instead. A knife is very personal, it is the one thing that you will pick up every time. Look around locally and see what is available, pick it up and hold it. There are several folks here on the forum that create custom knives as well, you may want to touch base with them.
