Default Hello from England!

Hello I have been carving for hours & hours in my shed and thought it would be nice to make contact with some kindred! I learned at a 2 week course in Austria, or started learning I should say. Here are some pics of the current thing on the bench, a head in limewood with long spiral curly hair ( just seeing if it's possible) with a plasticine reference model. All moral support gratefull received - daunting. Great to see all your good works on the site.

Good mornin' Eleanor (or at least it is here in the Ozarks).

Where in England are you located?

I am not a people carver; but, it looks like your head is taking shape. I do carve slow so fully understand the "hours and hours". The one thing I can say is that it is worth the effort in the end.

Welcome to the WCI Forum. there are a lot of good folks (including some from England) and good carvers who can offer you encouragement and advice and I am sure you will be hearing from them.

Hello and welcome. I've done a few faces and I'd say you have a great start. I hope that you keep posting pictures as it progresses. Your carving style looks a little different from the way that I go about it and I'm interested to see the way you go about completing it.

I think that you have a good start, I can't really coment on the face as I have never done one. But welcome to the group, I'm sure that there a lot of carvers that can help.

Welcome from grey and rainy BC. Looks like you are off to a good start. Is this face an old man, by any chance? The long flowing hair looks like it will work out nicely.

Welcome Elanor.. I am anxious to see your finished piece... Especially the hair.. This board is full of great advice and I can see we can learn from you also.. I always perk up when I see England as my Dads ancesrtors are from England.. County of Kent ,, use to be called Village of Maidstone.. in the 1800's . Are you in the county of Kent? London, I mean.. Welcome aboard Eleanor. Keep on chipping away, and posting pictures, we have a wide variety of carvers aboard here, many great ones, so I'm sure you will get all kinds of pointers as you proceed. We know how you feel, carving for hours and hours and not knowing if you're on the right track. When trying something new, it often is that way. But remember.....this is how you learn, by trying, by making mistakes and hopefully....enjoying the process. If it isn't perfect....who cares.....you learn by imperfections.....and correct them on the next one, or the next, ...etc. I've been carving for years and love trying new things. I still consider myself a beginner.

Welcome from across the pond! It looks like you have a terrific start on your carving and the clay bust should be a huge help. We have dear friends in Chemsford are you located near there? I think you will enjoy being a part of this fine group of carvers and woodburners. Please keep us posted on your progress.
