Default Hello From Eastern Pennsylvania

Hello All,

I am in the early stages of exploring the challenges of wood carving. I often stay at an RV resort in Mesa, AZ, for the winter and there is a wonderful group of talented carvers who produce some really great things. I would like to get a head start on characature carving and need to find a good first project and tutorial information, on tools, how to sharpen, how to not cut off more than five fingers on the first project...that sort of thing.

Hi John,

Welcome to the WCI board and carving.

I used to go to Yuma to visit my friend who was a snowbird from Canada. Some of my other friends just left Mesa to work up in No. Cal.

Enjoy the RV life and carving.

Try contacting Rick Ferry at Little Shavers Wood Carving Supply

He has a few tutorials and roughouts for beginners, along with info on sharpening and just about anything else you'll need to get started. He's good people to deal with...fair and honest!

Hi and welcome, we have family in Mesa make the run down the hill about twice a month. Little Shavers is an excellent place to get started. Rick and Teresa are super folks and good honest business folks.
