| | Hello! Well, it's been about a month since I first check into this forum and I thought it was about time I introduced myself. I hail from Southern Maryland near the bay. I have been woodworking for over thirty years doing various pieces of furniture and what not. Last year, I decided I wanted to change to a more quite aspect of woodworking, carving. I took a few classes carving wildfowl and songbirds. Although that was enjoyable, I wanted to have some fun and moved on to carricature carving. A few books by Pete LeClair and Dave Stetson helped me get started. Lately, I have moved on to carving the Nativity scene as shown in Shawn Cipa's book "Woodcarving The Nativity". My completed "Joseph" is posted in the gallery.
I have to tell you, this forum has already been a tremendous help to me with all of the tips and suggestions. I am extremely impressed by the quality of the work I have seen in the short time I have been on board. I am also impressed by the willingness of the members to share helpful advice and encouragment. I have been to other wood working sites where a lot a egos were on display. Not so, here. I'm looking forward to being a part of this group.
My hats off to the host for a first class forum!

| | Re: Hello! Well done ByGeorge .....and welcome aboard. Your Joseph is a splendid carving, a good start on a Nativity Scene. With all your experience in woodworking you will fit right in here. Wishing you every success with the rest of the scene, and please keep us posted with your progress.

| | Re: Hello! Thanks for the kind words. Carver6, the donkey will probably be the next figure after I finish Casper(one of the wise men) and Mary. I am acutualy just finishing up the second Mary, the first was discovered by one of our Schnauzers before I finished it! ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) |

| | Re: Hello! Don't ya hate it when that happens! Animals and carvings.....we could have a whole section on stories about those disasters. Had a kitten get into a ship model I had just finished the rigging on, she chewed the masts and the ends of all the spars, poor ship looked like she had gone through a hurricane. Good job that cat was a kitten and had her full quota of 9 lives, if I'd have caught her, she'd have lost them all!

| | Re: Hello! Welcome Chuck! It's good to have you join us! Looks like you have a good start to that Nativity!! How awful though about your first Mary and your ship, Bob, I can't imagine putting so much work into a piece and having it destroyed!! Again, welcome! Callynne |

| | Re: Hello! Bob,
I can't imagine anything with enough lives if it destroyed something that looks as nice as one of your ships. You would have been justified for about anything imaginable being done to that cat. (Guess you can tell I'm not very fond of cats. They're just too independent. When I call an animal by name, I think it's supposed to come to me. Not so with a cat!) |

| | Re: Hello! Welcome by George,
Your carving of Joseph looks quite good...keep up the good work. I must agree that this forum is most excellent. I have not had the opportunity to experience another carving forum for which I count myself most lucky. I have enough attitudes at my day job!
