Default Hello!!

Hello everyone!

I found this site while doing a google seach, and signed up to reply to a question in another section.

My name is Tommy, and I have been involved in woodworking, mainly as a hobbie for over 25 years. Carving has always been one of the aspects of woodworking that has always intrigued me, but admittedly, I lack the artistic ability to accomplish. Not from lack of trying, or patience, mind you, just, some people have it, some don't.

I don't

But that doesn't mean that I can't learn from the wealth of information here...and look forward to doing so...so off I go to check out the site...

Tommy

You have a good start TSILVEREAGLE just having found the site. Bet your boots you can find some outstanding work on here. I've always answered the question,"How did you do that", just look at a piece of wood and if you can see what you want inside. Cut everything away that dosen't look like it, then you have your carving! Semper Fi! pogerope

Welcome Tommy! I too used to think that without artistic ability one could never carve. Matter of fact I told someone that several years ago. All he said was, "big deal, then whittle". He was a sly old dude..I worked for me....
Just find someone that you can sit with and watch and try it your self. Some of the most precise carvers that I know probably don't have the kind of artistic abilities you refer to. And truly one that I am thinking of is a retired machinist. What he may lack in "artistic ability" he makes up for in tool skill and technique. Anyway I am glad you're here.....I look forward to seeing some of your work......really....get to it... Tom H
