Default Hello!!

Hi my name is Sabode.
I am in Tanzania East Africa, I have always loved this carving thing but never had a chance to learn it. I spend a lot of my time working in my office where am employed. I statrted searching on the internet to find if I can get some thing to start with, and found this site, hope it can be of great help to me.
I would like first to know which tools and/or books should buy to start with.
I do believe am on the right place.

Sabo.

Greetings Sabo,
Welcome to this site. Books and DVD's are helpful. Watching other carvers is even better. A few basic tools to start with are all that you need until you decide what type of carving you want to do. A deep U gouge, a V tool, A flat chisel, a #5 gouge and a knife for starting out, should get you going in the right direction. Don't buy a lot of different tools until you find out where you are going with this, like large in the round carvings, smaller stuff, relief work, chip carving, etc..... many choices, all with different tool requirements. Please try to locate a local club or even just a group of folks who get together to carve once a week. Carvers are great people. They are always helpful and ready to share what they have learned.
Good luck and feel free to ask for help on here anytime. What ever you need to know, someone on this site has an answer for you.
