Default Hello!

Hi to all!

I've been 'lurking' for some months now, and honestly thought that I had introduced myself before, but it tells me that I have not posted anything yet, so here goes:

I'm getting back into carving after about fifteen years of not doing any carving at all. Back then, I had a bout with a blood clot and lost most of my lung capacity. After healing, sawdust and such are not really all that good of a 'thing' for me. This past summer, my son helped me find some power carving equipment (read that as reciprocating tool) which will allow me to do some work with less sawdust than a foredom-type rotary tool, and can help make up for the nice bit of arthritis I've 'somehow' developed in my thumb joints.

I've found lots of good information on here and look forward to learning more to enhance my skills. Maybe, someday, I can contribute back to the growth of the art.

Default Pics...

Hi, Mottles,

Thanks for the reply. I'll get some digital images and put up a couple of my 'works of wonder....' in the next couple of days.

Of course, my *best* works are already out of my house and living in the care of other folks by now, so you'll have to settle for some of my 'early works.' LOL!

Bob

Welcome, Bob. If you've been lurking then you already know what a great site this is. I hope you like your reciprocating carver. I started power carving then went to gouges for the peace and quiet.

Welcome BobW

I too just joined and find this to be a great site. I've already learned a ton & got some good information and was able to save some info to my computer.

There are some great respreator devices avaliable now, hope you are able to utilize some of them. I have a fan blowing on me when I carve to help with the dust.

Good health to you and happy carving.

Tino

And I thought that the word "lurking" was no longer politically correct! I guess that it's okay if you're on the forum but I'd be careful how you use that term in the general public! Ha! Ha! Welcome! Sounds like you you've got a good son!

Yeah... but I DON'T 'have a wide stance,' so it's ok!

The son IS great, too. I look forward to getting back into developing some skills. Photos will be coming up within a day, I hope (am charging the digital camera now, as a matter of fact....)

Delphos. Near Lima.

Thanks for the hello, and I promise...pics will be up before the sun comes up..IF the camera works... But they aren't all that great, as I'm not truly a talented or experienced carver. I just try to improve as I go. At least that's a goal.
