Thumbs down H. S. "Andy" Anderson

Good morning, I am looking for any and all information or reference material (biographical or otherwise) or any input whatsoever on H. S. "Andy" Anderson who wrote a book in 1953 entitled "How to Carve Caricatures in Wood" or something along those lines. I haven't had much luck searching the internet. I have a statue approximately 11 1/2" tall which seems not to be made of wood but that has his name "carved" into the back rim of the cowboy's sombrero style hat along with the copywright symbol and 1936 and the name "Tex" on the front bottom area. I could EM a picture. Any information would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Rosewood

A tip...search here before Googling. Often, the question you raised, or something similar, has already been asked.

Here's a link to related posts here:

In this link,:
http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/t3617.html
then read some of the info posted,
and then for the book, go to whittlinwit's post (down at the bottom):
http://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wc...4ec1166310.html
enter your zip code, and search libraries in your area.

Go to: http://www.biblio.com/books/14998757.html to purchase for $35.

Go to: http://www.biblio.com/books/3473150.html to purchase for $92.70.

Go to: http://antiqbook.com/boox/reb/16403.shtml to purchase for $44.95.

Here's a link to Amazon, if you're willing to spend a "lotta" bucks for a book:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/off...?condition=all

Also, anytime you're looking to purchase a book, try: http://www.Addall.com

After entering some info., it will search for both used and new copies. I did that for this book, and Amazon was the only hit.

Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...22+Anderson%22
...gave me:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._S._%22Andy%22_Anderson

Rosewood,
The reason you are having touble is the title should be:
"How to carve characters in wood" the author was Al Paul Theil

The statue you have is one of a series of chalkware figures that were cast using Andy's designs. He worked for a time at Brayton Laguna pottery in California and designed several unusual pieces. They were fired in clay and painted with glaze.

If you are wondering about chalkware value, about $20-50; the ones I bought were $10-30. Here are a few samples of chalkware pieces and one Brayton Laguna piece from my collection.
