| | Greetings... Greetings on a beautiful Fall day in New Hampshire. I'm delighted to find this forum as I'm just beginning to try my hand at carving. I've been a whittler and wood worker for 30 or 40 years and have thought of trying my hand for a long time. Each winter when my workshop gets too cold, I move inside and tackle a new project to learn and take on. Last winter I build my first stringed instrument, a beautiful koa wood ukulele but this year I'm going to start down a continuing path of carving (I hope). I look forward to meeting many of you online with my questions and problems... cheers. |

| | Re: Greetings... Welcome to the forum/board. Sounds like you have great plan for learning new and fun things. Moving from cold shop inside is nice too. Moving from larger wood projects to smaller and then to carving from whittling is about the same thing I ended up doing. The fine folks on this forum have been a great and sharing resource. If you keep up with the postings you too will find this out. Glad you're here! Bye the way, what type of carving most interests you? Tom H |

| | Re: Greetings... Welcome aboard! New Hampshire is indeed beautiful this time of year, with all of the hardwoods leaves turning color, just a riot of golds, reds, oranges and yellows. Beautiful part of the country, and close access to a great wood supply. Many of my favorite woods grow down that way!
Again, welcome.

| | Re: Greetings... Welcome to the very best place to find out more about carving. Lots of great carvers hang around here and they will share everything they've learned about carving and finishing carvings.
I get out your way once or twice a year--our oldest daughter and her family live in Vermont but she teaches school in NH. Your state is beautiful. You're so lucky to have the very best possible wood for carving growing all around you. Enjoy the beautiful fall and good luck in avoiding the leaf peepers.

| | Re: Greetings... Thanks to one and all for the welcome. I've learned a great deal already reading the posts and look forward to 'chatting" with many of you in the future. I'm working on my first carving now and as soon as there's something to show or ask I'll be back. JF |
