Default Greatings

I'm really new to wood carving (less than a month now), and a friend (graywolf71, aka MichaelGray) told me about this site.

I've only done a couple of carvings so far, and already had 3 stitches in my thumb. I wasn't home from the E.R. for more than 5 minutes, when I found myself with a knife in my hand, cutting wood again... So I think I'm hooked.

here's a pic of my first completed piece (complete with stitches):

and my second piece:

I'm going to stain the hedgehog, and paint the boot.

It's hard to see in this pic, but I have a hole carved in the toe of the boot, with a big toe poking out. It'll show up better after it's painted.

oh, and the stitches just came out last night. A day early, but I really couldn't stand it any longer. The blasted things kept snagging on my shirt, sheets, blankets, thin air.....

Hi and welcome I’m new here too. This is a great place to snoop around for inspiration and advise.

On my first carving I ended up in the ER for two stitches in my left hand, between my thumb & pointer finger, straight in with a bench knife. I’ll bet we’re not the only ones here to do that

Welcome aboard Blood Brother! Now that you've paid your dues I'd recommend you go out and buy a glove and some thumb tape!

Nice job on the boots and Hedgehog.
