Default Good morning from NH!

Like many others, I am just starting out. I have worked with wood most of my life, but never done any wood working. With the right tools, most anyone can build a shelf, box, cabinet or frame a house without alot of thought. However I have found that Carving is vision, precision, patience and detail. I have only one of those criteria - vision, the rest not so much, least of all patience! I like found wood and birds, so jumped right in to 'the round' on a piece of oak - with my leatherman, an hour later absorbed ... sliced my finger about off. Its healed now (ego too), stitches out, glove purchased, set of warren tools and a few pieces of basswood. Self taught in all that I do from the school of hard knocks.
I have already found this forum, and the magazine - extremely helpful and am looking forward to soaking it all in.
Thanks for being here!
Margo

Hi Margo,
Welcome to the forum! You are so right, found wood & birds is a great combination and can become very habit forming. Lots of talented carvers here working with found wood. Tons of info in the archives too. Glad you found us.

Welcome to the forum Margo! You described wood carving very well and although you think you only have vision I'm sure you are more talented than you think you are. This forum and WCI magazine are the right places to be if you are just starting out. Don't be afraid to ask questions here...we are only too happy to help!
