Default Good Morning to all.

I am obviously a new posting member. I have been carving about 4 years. I find that sometimes my work is good and worthy of showing it off but at other times I can not carve a stick figure. I hope to learn from you all and to know that I am not alone when I say that the art of carving can be both inspirational and frustrating.

Yes but it's all so much fun.....Welcome Woodenail. I haven't been carving long enough, nor am I good enough, to be sure that when I start a carving it will turn out looking like what I want it too. But it is fun..Looking forward to seeing photos of your efforts.. Tom H

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Just like everything else in life, you can't win all the time. The most important thing is to enjoy the journey... have fun and the rest will fall into place. Art is subjective... what one person likes another may not, and vice versa. I'll spend a couple of days working on a piece and then show it to my wife only to be told that she doesn't like it while at other times I'll be totally dissatisfied with my efforts and she'll love it! Who can tell! Some times your the doggie... some times your the hydrant! Best of luck in your quest!

Welcome Woodenail,
Great bunch of folks here and they are willing to offer advice and encouragement. I think most of us experience the same results you have had--sometimes what we carve looks like what we had in mind--and sometimes it doesn't. But I've always found someone--usually a kid or grandkid--is happy to get a good or bad carving. The more you carve, the more confident you'll get and the more consistent your carvings will get.
