There are several golf ball carving books out. A new one from Tom Wolfe. Check out Little Shavers, Smokey Mountain Wood Carvers, Mountain Carvers, TheWoodcraftshop.com etc. Also Gene Messer has a golf ball carving video on You Tube ...

yes I have carved a few golf balls..one recently at the NE Woodcarvers roundup in Honesdale..there is a carveable foam inside most golf balls of these days..and from what I have heard recently some ball manufacturers are experimenting with a liquid inside the hard shell rather than the carveable foam..the tough part is getting the outer skin off..try a motorized cutting tool like dremel with the little saw blade cutter...aah but becarefull the outer skin gets warm and will wrap around that cutter..so keep the dremel running slow and proceed with caution..I have cut a few skins off by hand..some use a drill press and some use a lathe..

I just opened one up using a copping saw and a screw driver. It takes a little persistence and something to help hold the ball. But, you can get "to the heart of the matter."
