| | Re: friends HI English Jim,
I recommend the book by Richard Butz, "How to carve wood".... It has chapters on different styles of carving from chip carving to relief to 3-D, and architectural. You can try some projects until you find your nich.
Do you have tools already?
Looking through past posts on this board can give you a lot of answers as well, but feel free to ask your own as they apply to you. Everyone here is always willing to chime in with opinions.

| | Re: friends Hi Jim,
Welcome to the club. I just sent a reply to Johnny D. about this same question so I'm going to copy my reply to you. Good luck.
I'm new to this forum also but not quite so new to woodcarving. I borrowed a DVD from my carving club, called "Beginning Woodcarving". It is being sold at www.ellenwoodarts.com. It is one of the best beginning videos I have seen. He goes into woods, tools, sharpening, and the different kinds of carving that can be done. He then gives you some beginning projects to work on. The video is about 3 1/2 hours long. I am going to recommend it to all my beginning woodcarving friends.

| | Re: friends Look around your area and see if there is a carving club. If there is, you'll get a lot of local help as well. Woodcarvers are probably the most sharing-ist people there are. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
