Hello, I am a new member, I carved a little some years back now retired and getting back into it. I found a Freud CS-112 carving tool set and purchased it because of the steel the tools are made of the chrome vanadium steel seemed like a good idea at the time. It appears this set has not been made in a long time 10-15years. Where they junk? Is there any opinion as to the quality of these tools are they good bad or what. They seem to stay sharper longer then the old Bucks I had been using. I need to justify the money I payed for them in my mind. Thanks, Don |

Try sharpening and honing them. Then see if they will do wghat you need them to do. Personally, I never would purchase them because of the way that they looked at the time I saw them in the box. The steel itself just made me shy away. This is why I'm saying to work on the edges and see if they will work. Good luck!

They sharpened well and they do hold an edge well. I know what you mean about the way they look, they are not polished like the higher end tools. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has the Freud tolls and how they have worked out for them. Thanks for the reply. Don

Hi Don, welcome to the forum. Freud makes some real nice router bits, but I didn't know they also made carving gouges. If they hold a good edge, that's all that counts.

I think Ed has sumed things up, they cut good, feel good and cut very well. Although they are not offered by Freud any more I think I am happy with the tools. Thank you all for the input. Don I consider the day lost if I don't got in trouble for something. |
