Post Fresh Start

Just want to introduce myself. DP (Don) Huson, Ocean Shores ,WA
I have "woodworked" for a lot of years. I am trying to get started with carving. I am learning sketching in order to hve a knowledge of art proportioning and facial feature placement. The sketching is interesting, but
carving is my goal and I'm eager to start before I run out of time.

Hello and welcome, Sketching is a good start and when your ready to start carving you'll have some of the basic's out of the way. Don't wait to long to start cutting up some wood. What are you interested in carving?

Hey There D.P. get yerself a chunk of wood and let 'er rip. I'm 77 years of age, can't draw (sketch) can barley write my name (just kidding) took to wood carving a few months ago and I'm havin a ball. Try a wood spirit, I find them the easyest to carve and you'll be surprised at your results, there are many pictures on this forum and even some step by steps on how to carve anything you want. It's really not that difficult, and if your like me, you always end up with a good supply of kindling wood for the fire place. Good luck there my friend and welcome aboard, there's a lot of help here if you ask for it.

Good idea Don.....sketching will teach you how to put your ideas on paper before you start to carve...to see if its what you want and a basic idea if it will look like what you had in mind....it also teaches you perspective and proportion among other things......not time wasted....but you can always carve in between classes
