Default Fishgap

Hello to all the Clan members. I am new at this so if I am out of place in anyway please forgive me.

My name is Alfie J. Fishgap and I am a Carver. Oops wrong group. J

I carve Native West Coast style, my background is Coast Salish but I tend to carve Haida and Kwakiutl

Traditional styles as I find them less macabre and more pleasing to the eye.

I live in Northern Ontario with my wife and child and make a living carving Totems, masks, paddles, Spirit Lures, and many other pieces. Woodburning is also a tool I use to create some of my art. I am aware that woodburning is a sour grape with some carvers. "That’s not carving", they say. I agree, but the medium is wood and that’s all that matters to me. Hey don’t they use woodburning on decoys and bird carving?

I am truly honored to be part of such a talented group of carvers and look forward to contributing to the message board.

Alfie

Welcome my friend,

The only thing I have against woodburners is that I only have a soldering iron

Welcome Alfie Fishgap, I just went to http://www.fishgap.com/
My goodness !! There's a lot of remarkable work there. I'll go back tonight and see everything when I'm armed with time and popcorn. That's some great stuff.
We're happy you're here. You have a lot to share - even a sense of humor !!
I lean heavily on my woodburner . Hurts like heck.

Now that is a very unusual web site. I was fascinated by it and by your artistic endeavors. Loved the spirit lures. Never ran across anything like that before. Glad to have you among us.

Welcome aboard Alfie. You have some amaizing art work on your website, love it. Woodburning is just another tool in finishing wood, so don't worry, your stuff not only fits in here....it shines! Look forward hearing from you in the future, lots of Canucks aboard here, so make yourself right at home. The folks here are great. Just wish they served tea! Smile

errr..."what's it all about Alfie?" lol........nice site, some great carving, and most of us I think do a bit of burning to enhance our carvings...anybody that doesn't like that......well,.....they can go cut divots at the golf course! LOL

Well Alfie UR web site is state of the art! Your carvings and burnings are super! I've not heard anyone bad mouth wood burning before, I've heard a few people mumble about power carving, everything goes where I come from hand tools, power carving even wood burning.
