i just decided to delve into the world of wood carving with absolutely no experience at all. will be looking forward to learn much from all of you & hopefully i can get the tips i will be looking for.

Everyone started at the begining..... Carving is not hard but it takes persistance and it helps if you can locate either classes or just a carving group with no formal teacher. Actually watching someone use their tools is very helpful.
When I first started carving I bought a great set of German tools and tried to follow along with the PBS program, "Carving with Rick Butz". Unfortunately, I did not know that tools are not sharp when you buy them so when I couldn't do what the guy on tv was doing, I gave up. Thank goodness I attended a local carving show and was hooked up with a teacher who ran a small group. He sharpened my tools for me and taught me how to use them.
That was 15 years ago. This website is wonderful. Years and years of experience are located right here. Welcome.
